Who We Are
100+ years of experience
Innovative Blood Resources brings our partners more than 100 years of combined blood industry experience. We provide comprehensive product and service capabilities focusing on value-driven solutions for patients, hospitals, physicians, researchers, and other health care partners.
Blood Services are delivered through Minnesota-based Memorial Blood Centers, and Nebraska Community Blood Bank, located in Lincoln. These locally-operated blood banks have a shared vision to be the best blood centers in America.
The foundation for IBR Biomedical Services grew from the nationally-recognized research and clinical trial contributions of Memorial Blood Centers’ physicians and clinicians in blood banking and transfusion services. We are now making those capabilities available to researchers, offering our expertise in the areas of cellular therapy, clinical trial support, as well as regulatory and quality systems consulting.
About Our Family
Innovative Blood Resources (IBR) is a nonprofit 501(c)3 charitable organization operating two nationally-recognized, community-based blood centers – Minnesota-based Memorial Blood Centers and Nebraska Community Blood Bank, based in Lincoln. In 2016, IBR announced a strategic partnership with New York Blood Center, expanding clinical capabilities and organizational expertise. IBR provides comprehensive blood products, advanced laboratory services, and enhanced value-driven solutions for hospitals, physicians, and other healthcare partners. Clinical staff also offer expertise in transfusion medicine and biomedical research to help clients meet economic and healthcare changes.
Memorial Blood Centers (MBC) has been saving lives since 1948 as an independent nonprofit blood center. MBC relies on the local community to donate blood to help ensure a safe and stable blood supply is available to area hospitals and other partners throughout the country. Operating 10 donor centers and conducting hundreds of blood drives each month, MBC also provides comprehensive testing and expert technical services as a national leader in transfusion medicine.
Since 1968, Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB) has been committed to saving lives and serving as the flagship blood bank of Nebraska. NCBB relies on the local community to donate blood to help ensure a safe and stable blood supply is available to area hospitals and other partners. Founded by Lancaster County Medical Society physicians to meet the transfusion needs of area hospitals, NCBB has expanded its capabilities and service areas to fully meet the needs of Nebraska hospitals. The main facility located in Lincoln serves as the administrative, laboratory, and distribution hub.
Now more than 50 years old, New York Blood Center (NYBC) is a nonprofit organization that is one of the largest independent, community-based blood centers in the country. NYBC, along with its partner organizations Community Blood Center (CBC), based in Kansas City, Missouri, and Innovative Blood Resources (IBR), based in St. Paul, Minnesota, collect approximately 3,300 units of blood products each day, serving local communities of more than 25 million people in New York, New Jersey, parts of Connecticut and Pennsylvania, the Kansas City metropolitan area, Minnesota, and Nebraska.
NYBC and its partners also provide a wide array of transfusion-related medical services, while NYBC’s National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) at the Howard P. Milstein Cord Blood Center is home to the world’s largest public cord blood bank. NYBC is also home to a renowned research institute, Lindsley F. Kimball Research Institute, which — among other milestones — developed the Hepatitis B vaccine and innovative blood-purification technology.
Community Blood Center (CBC), established over 40 years ago, serves hospitals in the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area, as well as eastern Kansas and western Missouri. CBC provides blood products to 70 area hospitals – and relies on volunteer donors each day to meet the need for life-saving gifts of blood. CBC provides high quality reference immunohematology laboratory services, including platelet and red blood cell antibody testing, and therapeutic apheresis to local hospitals.
Built on a foundation of innovation and discovery and combining the scientific and research expertise of New York Blood Center and Community Blood Center of Kansas City, the National Center for Blood Group Genomics (NCBGG) specializes in applying precision medicine to blood transfusion to increase safety and minimize complications. Based in Kansas City, NCBGG’s mission is to provide the highest quality testing services for extended blood typing at lower cost for donor centers and the patients they serve to improve the practice of transfusion medicine, to develop the next generation of testing, and to train the next generation of leaders.
Comprehensive Cell Solutions builds on our excellence in science, research and development, medical services, laboratory services and blood. Today we offer a comprehensive menu of products and services to develop, improve, and implement scientific studies in the areas of regenerative medicine, cell therapies, transfusion medicine, and related scientific and medical endeavors. Our services provide access to our world-class clinical and scientific expertise.
National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) was founded in 1992 to investigate cord blood as a possible solution to a critical public health need: finding appropriate hematopoietic progenitor cells for transplantation in patients who have no matched bone marrow donors. NCBP collects, processes, and stores cord blood units in liquid nitrogen freezers, ready for shipping whenever needed. Each unit is tested for the number of relevant cells. The unit and the donor’s mother are also tested for HLA type and transmissible infectious diseases. NCBP is the first cord blood bank to have a licensed cord blood product, HEMACORD®. Supported by the Howard and Abby Milstein Foundation, NCBP is committed to providing high quality cord blood units and promoting high standards in cord blood banking.
